Have been asked so many times about the balanced diet I advice in my practice of homoeopathy. A diet which infuses energy and improves the immunity and helps one increase resistance against disease. A diet to prevents constipation and keeps IBS in control. A healthy body helps one recover really fast from illness/ surgery. I have been a follower of a particular simple diet plan. Writing down what one eats and measuring the portions is my first advice. Sharing this for my homeopathy students / fans / followers of a good diet plan for healthy living and wellness. 1.. I start the day with a glass of lemon juice with honey instead of sugar. (At times I would advise a methi seeds infused water kept overnight to patients with acid reflux) . A good cleanse and detox helps kickstart the mornings. 2. A good workout of Pilates/ cardio followed by an ABC juice. 3. Breakfast : very Indian. Nothing packaged. Upma/poha/ idlis / dosa 4. A mid morning snack of fibre rich fruits at 11 am. Papaya /guava / a seasonal fruit. 5. Lunch with brown rice and dal and sabji with a sprout salad and a cup of curd( pro biotic and non sweetened ) 6. A mid evening snack of fistful of nuts ( a fig/ date , almonds , walnuts , pistachios ) with a warm green tea ( chamomile to gear up for the evening) at 4 pm 7. A late evening bowl of salad with olives and flax seeds at 7 pm 8. Dinner by 8. Again a round of veggies (greens) and chappati with a glass of buttermilk. 9. A glass of milk with no sugar at bed time. Important tip: I always eat fruits bought from the local growers. Keep the walnuts and powdered flax seeds in the fridge to prevent them from becoming rancid. Try setting curd at home and prepare buttermilk using this organic dahi. Drink enough water through the day and chew into an apple when hungry !! 😊😊

I am sure in a homeopathic physicians practice one is frequently asked by parents these questions : 1. How do I ensure my child is eating a well balanced diet. 2. How do I ensure that the diet is improving my child's immunity and resistance against disease/ illness . 3. How to form a positive and long term sustainable diet pattern and one that is interesting and do able . I always begin my sharing what I have done to bring about the change in my children. Let me start with the question number 1 and share how I plan the main meals. We call it Fun Khana Times! Some simple rules I follow for myself : 1. I plan in advance. I write down the menu of the week and I think colorful ! Reds , greens, yellows and think different food groups to be included daily. So a daily portion of proteins ( dals, soups/sprouts), vitamins and minerals with fiber(veggies!! And salads), carbs( rotis, rice ) , fats ( a freshly made dollop of ghee) and pro biotics ( curd , yogurt smoothie, buttermilk) to help digestion and absorption of nutrients ! 2. Once the menu is planned I involve the children who at times sit and want to make the menu and the meal fancy. So I encourage them in doing some craft and make a menu card and cutting the veggies or plating the salad. It gives them a sense of how much thought , care and love goes into the food. On weekends they love setting the table and some candles and music too in the background! ( at the risk of being called elaborate , I am sharing this , since it has worked wonders with some patients with fussy and reluctant little patients of mine). My children ideally like sitting cross legged And eating with their fingers! Any novelty is fun. Like a picnic in the balcony. All these for weekends specials at Fun Khana Times. 3. They serve themselves and portions they decide. But everything that has been cooked has to be tasted/ sampled. That way I have slowly ensured that all food groups has been eaten and the children have been taught to enjoy and eat variety. 3.. I absolutely have No gadgets policy at mealtimes and bedtimes. I follow that rule myself. So no tv or iPads. It gives us time to plan the day ahead with lot of laughter at breakfast time and to discuss the day gone by with satisfaction. This is my simple and wholesome plan for my kids ( and little angels , my little patients ) Important thought here is a simple , wholesome , homely meal and that with fresh ingredients offers a better balanced diet !! Would love to get some more ideas. We have such lovely child counsellors and dieticians in this panel ! To a happier and healthier fun food times!

It's a jet paced and non stop activity focussed world we live in , and it's easy to over work oneself and push oneself beyond exhaustion!!  This excessive energy utilised and not restored creates a weakened immune system.  If take proper care of ourselves by eating right according to our constitutions and get adequate rest and exercise and release the built up stress by appropriate relaxing techniques, our system remains strong and immune to diseases.  However if we abuse our bodies and extend our capacities beyond reason, eat poorly and refuse to acknowledge importance of exercise and de stress techniques , our immune systems weaken and we are prone to illness. Acupressure and deep breathing techniques with stretches is what I employ as an aid to  gentle homeopathic medicines to strengthen the immune system and to ward off disease!  Every days stress and strain , physical and emotional, accumulates inside us and causes various physical ailments ranging from neck , back and shoulder pains to more chronic ibs or even anxiety panic disorders. I have been using acupressure , deep breathing techniques and slow and paced out strong stretches to counteract the common daily pressures of my life.  We can withstand only a certain amount of stress. Each person has a different threshold and different reaction to mundane stress that we battle daily. Each one should determine himself or herself , how much is too much.  When you cultivate an inner awareness of what's going on inside you, both internal and external , physical and emotional , then you discover your optimum balance of physical activity and rest !!  So regularly doing certain stretches, deep breathing or specialised breathing techniques , by practicing mindfulness and tapping on acupressure meridians , and by improving the quality of the foods we eat , one can increase ones energy levels and boost up the immune system !!
